Work placements

Looking for a fantastic way to gain insight into a career in the NHS? We welcome those seeking their first work experience, and placements here at SCW are short-term opportunities that can give you that vital experience.

Some NHS jobs are ‘clinical’, which means they are directly related to patients and their treatment. Some are ‘non-clinical’ i.e. administration, finance etc. It can be valuable to get non-clinical work experience here at SCW, even if you hope to end up in a clinical career. We're able to offer a rich diversity of experiences as we employ over 1,400 people who work with over 60 frontline NHS organisations.

We have long seen the value of paid-for internships, where you can gain vital insight into working for us during, or around, your studies for a fixed period of time.

Internships are advertised along with all vacancies at SCW via NHS Jobs. This gives opportunities for all to apply and to go through our values-based, fair and equal recruitment process. We've created a handy guide to applying, including our top tips.

Internships are paid at the entry point of each Agenda for Change pay band. Details can be found in the job description and person specification for each role.

Graduate blogs

Looking to join our graduate scheme?

SCW runs a highly regarded and well-established graduate management scheme. This offers a unique opportunity for graduates to help transform the way health services work for patients and communities.

We asked six of our current first year graduates about their experiences on the graduate scheme so far.

Each grad gives their own personal insight into the application process, providing tips to potential applicants, as well as what their current role entails.
