To help meet the NHS Long Term Plan objective for 75% of all cancers diagnosed at an early stage, we created user-friendly reporting solutions. These offer easy accessibility and usability in the context required for Primary Care Networks.
Somerset, Wiltshire, Avon and Gloucestershire (SWAG) Cancer Alliance needed a way to measure how Primary Care Networks (PCNs) were managing the drive towards the NHS Long Term Plan ambition for 75% of all cancers diagnosed at an early stage.
They wanted to compare the appropriate metrics, so achievements could be seen in the context of other local related factors. The data was already publically available through Public Health England (PHE), but it was difficult to access and use in the context required.
Using PHE’s Fingertips online data repository, the metrics to allow assessment of early cancer diagnosis were identified and acquired. These were then transformed so they could be displayed in a manner consistent with the need to make comparisons between the metrics.
After consideration of SCW’s Power BI report server and web application service, the requirement of it being a public-facing report accessible outside the NHS led to the Digital Intelligence Team developing the report. Using Tableau and deploying it on Tableau Public allows for a user-friendly and visual approach in reporting to be combined with easy accessibility.
While currently covering the Somerset, Wiltshire, Avon and Gloucestershire Cancer Alliance, a rollout to Peninsula Cancer Alliance will be coming in the very near future.
